PARIS THOMSON - SIRAP

ON MAKING A NAME FOR YOURSELF AS A YOUNG, AMBITIOUS CREATIVE.

How do you make a name for yourself, as a young, ambitious creative?

That's what we set out to uncover in our latest chat with Paris Thomson. Her business is SIRAP, a creative video production agency that works with the likes of Lexus, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, The Design Files, David Jones, and many more.

Paris started her biz at the ripe old age of 24, quickly learning that hassling and hustling was a successful way to open doors 💪🏼

Paris is equal parts creative and commercial, and she's an example of someone who has taken a passion - videography - and turned it into a thriving business. If you're a creative trying to make a name for yourself, this one is for you!

You’ll learn:

  • How Paris has built structure and process within a creatively-led business

  • Why Paris believes hassling and hustling is the way to open doors

  • How brands can integrate video content into their overall marketing plan

  • Paris's approach to business development and sales (and why she loves doing deals over a wine)

THE BITS YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS

It’s all about knocking on doors. And I think from a creative point of view, I think it’s really important to connect with people. And a lot of people say, well where does your creativity come from? And how do you develop that with the clients? Ultimately, you’ve got to knock down the door, hustle and hassle until the door opens basically.
— On landing new clients and securing deals.
I grew up in this dynamic environment where I saw mum and dad doing work that wasn’t nine to five. I was often dragged to meetings with them through school holidays, so I guess I grew up with a bit of an understanding of what’s involved to do your own thing and to realise your own your own dream and create your own pathway.
— On growing up in an entrepreneurial household.
I always say to our team to just pick up the phone and call clients. I am allergic to pushing emails around, I just think clogging up your inboxes doesn’t really serve anyone.
— On her approach to communicating in business.
I think as a multi hat wearer, or an entrepreneur, it’s so difficult to find the balance. How do you find the space to be creative, get the book work done, do the hustle all the things? My approach or philosophy around how I balance work and life is that I think of my energy as being in a jug; a jug of sorts that you’re constantly pouring out. You’re pouring this energy and time and thought out into your clients, to your team, to your family, it never stops. It’s constantly pouring, pouring, pouring. But the jug doesn’t fill itself up on its own. It’s something that you’ve got to really invest the time into refilling and rejuvenating and making sure that it is constantly topped up.
— On making sure that Paris protects her energy.
