LIZZY PIKE - FACE HALO
ON HOW TO BECOME A MORE SUSTAINABLE BRAND, ONE DECISION AT A TIME
How many face wipes do you think hit landfill every single day? It's billions, which, if you calculate over a year, is pretty damn gross.
In this episode, we're chatting to Lizzy Pike, the founder and creator of Face Halo, a reusable makeup remover that was brought to life in 2017 from the desire to remove makeup quickly, effectively and sustainably.
As far as entrepreneurs go, this is Lizzy’s second business, and she shared with us that it’s taken her 20 years to come up with her one, successful, good idea!
We had a really great conversation with Lizzy about manufacturing, sustainability, failure, and even her business partnership with one of the world's biggest beauty influencers, Chloe Morello.
You’ll learn:
The right questions to ask when you’re sourcing a new manufacturer
How to vet the working conditions of a factory from afar
How to move your brand towards sustainability without breaking the bank
Why partnering with Chloe Morello has been such a success (handy hint: her values are closely aligned with Lizzy’s!)
Why Face Halo didn’t launch with a sustainability message, despite sustainability being a key point of difference

THE BITS YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS
“Working with our manufacturer really collaboratively is key during the product development process. He takes on feedback well, and we work on the prototypes together. I’ve spent a lot of time building that relationship, and now we’re at a point where we trust each other.”
“The best way of finding an ethical manufacturer is to approach people in the industry for recommendations and referrals. You can Google a manufacturer, but you won’t necessarily know what you’re getting yourself into. Recommendations are the way to go.”
“When Chloe said she wanted to be part of the company, we were so excited. Partnering with her was taking a risk, but sometimes you have to do that in business. Sometimes you take a risk, and it doesn’t work. But this one paid off. So we were really lucky.”
“Sometimes I listen to myself and think ‘Gosh, 3, 4 years ago I did not know that!’ I’ve learnt so much immersing myself into this business. When I doubt myself my daughter tells me ‘Mum, you’ve got imposter syndrome, you’ve got to stop that!”
